DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined: February 5, 2026
I know that people have been waiting for this one!
DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined is releasing for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store on Windows
LONDON, UK (Sept. 12, 2025) – During today’s Nintendo Direct showcase, SQUARE ENIX unveiled DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined, a remake of 2000’s DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, set to launch on Feb. 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2™, Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam® and Microsoft Store on Windows. Both returning fans and new players will experience a standalone, epic single-player RPG adventure to save the world, now lovingly reimagined with a hand-crafted aesthetic that makes the game feel like a living storybook. Pre-orders begin today.
We’re beyond excited to announce DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined – coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Microsoft Store and Steam on February 5, 2026!
The first thing that probably grabbed you about it are the visuals, right? It’s understandable – the acclaimed RPG has been… well, ‘reimagined’ in a new hand-crafted visual style that bursts with personality and charm. Rest assured though, this game’s beauty is more than skin deep.
It’s an utterly superb RPG, with an incredible story, amazing characters and brilliant turn-based battles.
You can get a sense of what to expect in the trailer or read on and we’ll tell you everything you need to know about it.
What is DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined?
DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined is an epic RPG that offers a compelling tale of discovery across time itself.
It begins on Estard Island – a secluded island nestled in a vast ocean. A simple moment of curiosity leads a group of childhood friends into an epic adventure across both the past and present, where they uncover malevolent forces and the true nature of their world.
As the game’s name implies, it’s a full remake of DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, which originally released in 2000 in Japan on PlayStation and 2001 in North America. It later received a remake for Nintendo 3DS, which released February 2013 in Japan and 2016 in North America, Europe and Australasia.
This new version of the game features a new hand-crafted visual aesthetic that brings the world and its characters to life like never before! Not only that, but revamped battle mechanics and quality-of-life features make the game feel fresh and modern – whether you’re a new player or series veteran.
The story has also been significantly streamlined. Told through a series of vignettes with an overarching narrative, it’s been reworked to be pacier and more accessible to players – while still maintaining the narrative depth the game is known for.
The visuals of DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined
The character designs in DRAGON QUEST VII were originally created by the legendary artist Akira Toriyama. For this game, they’ve been recreated in a charming handcrafted 3D style, which captures all the charm and style of those original designs.
The world has also been reimagined as bright and detailed dioramas, which are full of detail while maintaining the original warmth and atmosphere of the original game.
What do you do in DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined?
DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined tells a thrilling story about a group of friends on the adventure of a lifetime.
As part of this adventure, you’ll seek out fragments of tablets to unlock passages to different islands in the past, each with exciting scenarios and stories to discover.
As you play through the story, and explore different pasts, you’ll discover towns, dungeons and fields, take on deadly foes and discover secrets aplenty. You’ll find side quests and minigames too – this is a game that rewards the curious!
In short, it’s everything you could want from an RPG – exploration, battles and secrets, all tied together by a great story with lovable characters.
Speaking of battles…
An updated battle system
The world of DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined is full of iconic monsters. Don’t be distracted by their appealing new designs – these creatures can do some serious damage if not dealt with promptly.
Fortunately, your party are more than up to the task. Enemies are visible on the field – touch one, and you’ll start a battle… unless it’s weaker than you. If that’s the case, pre-emptively strike it and you’ll defeat it there and then, which keeps the adventure moving at a brisk pace.
Combat is turn-based – you issue commands to your party and they execute them. A brand new feature of this game is the ability to Moonlight – essentially, each member of the team can now equip up to two Vocations!
These Vocations determine what abilities and spells they have access to in battle, and the new Moonlighting feature means you have more options in battle than ever before!
Each of these vocations also features a special Vocational Perk. These perks range from powerful attacks to buffs for your allies – and although they can only be used when a character is ‘worked up’ they can change the tide of battle in an instant!
For example – the Monster Master vocation (new for this version of the game), features the ‘Positive Reinforcement’ perk, which summons powerful monsters to attack your foes!
There are plenty of quality-of-life features to make battles fun and convenient too. As well as automatically defeating weaker foes, you can also set tactics for your protagonist and allies, so they battle to a particular strategy without the need for direct command. You can also speed up fights to make them fly by!
A message from Producer Takeshi Ichikawa
DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined is a new version of DRAGON QUEST VII that has been rebuilt from the ground up for modern audiences.
When we decided to remake DRAGON QUEST VII, we thought deeply about the visual direction. We wanted audiences worldwide, not just in Japan, to grow fond of the charming characters designed by Akira Toriyama.
So, in order to depict the depth and feel of DRAGON QUEST VII’s story more vividly, we took on a new challenge for the DRAGON QUEST series: employing a hand-crafted art style and developing in-game environments that resembles dioramas.
DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined not only “reimagines” the visual and emotional portrayal of its characters, but also makes the game’s story significantly more approachable and accessible.
So, whether you enjoyed DRAGON QUEST VII on its original release, struggled to collect all the tablets, or are just experiencing the DRAGON QUEST series for the first time, we believe this game will provide a satisfying experience.
We hope you all enjoy it!
Producer Takeshi Ichikawa

Resident Evil Requiem
The Resident Evil series holds a special place in my heart. I buy every release, I track the lore, I love these games. So to say that I am excited for this game is a drastic understatement.
Resident Evil Requiem is releasing for Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games Store, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
A new era of survival horror arrives with Resident Evil Requiem, the latest and most immersive entry yet in the iconic Resident Evil series. Experience terrifying survival horror with FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, and dive into pulse-pounding action with legendary agent Leon S. Kennedy. Both of their journeys and unique gameplay styles intertwine into a heart-stopping, emotional experience that will chill you to your core.
A body has surfaced at an abandoned hotel in the Midwest, the latest in a mysterious string of deaths throughout the United States.
FBI intelligence analyst Grace Ashcroft has been assigned to the case—in the same place where her mother was murdered eight years prior. But when word gets out that a police officer has gone missing at the hotel, veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy is also dispatched to the scene.
As Grace and Leon’s paths converge, they must face their pasts and uncover the truth behind the Raccoon City Incident that changed the world forever. But while the terrors of their memories echo in their minds, will they relive the nightmare…or finally offer up a requiem for the dead?
Today’s Resident Evil™ Showcase roundhouse kicked its way into the hearts and minds of Resident Evil series veterans and newcomers alike with tons of all-new Resident Evil™ Requiem gameplay, additional details on the unique collaboration with Porsche, announcement of a time-stopping collaboration with the world-renowned watchmaker Hamilton, plus launch day availability on GeForce NOW and intel on NVIDIA’s latest DLSS 4 and path-tracing technology, all ahead of Resident Evil Requiem’s worldwide launch on February 27, 2026. Catch the full Resident Evil Showcase here on YouTube, and check out more info on each announcement below!
Gameplay & Story
FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and Legendary DSO agent Leon Kennedy star as the dual protagonists of Resident Evil Requiem, offering players a unique combination of death-defying action and spine-tingling survival horror. As revealed previously, both protagonists will be playable in first-person perspective for deeper immersion, and third-person perspective for more dynamic action, swappable at any point during the game.
- Leon Kennedy: Leon, experienced in both hand-to-hand combat and firearms, is investigating a series of suspicious deaths. While navigating this deadly situation, he’s able to wield a variety of weapons and execute close-quarters combat maneuvers with the all-new hatchet. Perfect Leon’s skills as you time your moves to parry enemy attacks, turn the tables as you attack with a chainsaw seized from an enemy, and pull off exhilarating finishing moves to deliver the final blow.
- Grace Ashcroft: Grace begins her survival journey in a sanatorium overrun with zombies, requiring fierce judgement when deciding which enemies to fight and which to avoid. Limited resources and carrying capacity force the player to make critical decisions that can mean life or death. Acquiring a special device allows Grace to craft vital items using infected blood, unlocking the opportunity to diversify your attack strategies. The Requiem assault revolver, a special nod to the game’s name, is a custom gun boasting immense power and will likely be your last resort for survival. With limited ammo, will you use it right away or save your ammo for the horrors ahead?
- Zombies: The zombies in this game have lost their minds, however some seem fixated on actions from their lives before death. A chef obsessed with cooking, a singer who keeps singing, a janitor who polishes mirrors endlessly…Could you exploit their behaviors to outmaneuver them?
- Elpis: Elpis is the keyword that connects everything: the death of Grace’s mother, Alyssa Ashcroft; Grace’s own past; and the story connected to Leon. It’s up to you, the player, to unravel the mystery that leads to the truth behind the events depicted in Resident Evil Requiem.
- Difficulty: Players can choose from multiple difficulties when experiencing the horror and action. Casual offers aim assist, plus more forgiving player health and enemy durability. Standard (Classic) heightens the tension, requiring Ink Ribbons for each save while playing as Grace, demanding strategy not only in resource management but also when to save.
Platforms & Technology
Alongside PlayStation®5, Nintendo Switch™ 2, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store, Resident Evil Requiem will also release on GeForce NOW cloud gaming service, all starting the same day on February 27, 2026. Those who purchase Resident Evil Requiem on Steam or Epic Games Store will be able to play even on PCs with more casual specs through GeForce NOW. In addition, through mobile devices and televisions that support GeForce NOW, you can enjoy Resident Evil Requiem wherever you are. A separate GeForce NOW membership subscription is required.
Resident Evil Requiem is also being optimized for a wide range of PCs ahead of its worldwide release, with high-spec PC players able to enjoy additional cutting-edge technology from NVIDIA, with DLSS 4 and path-traced effects that accelerate performance and enhance image quality.
Collaborations
It’s time to unveil an extraordinary collaboration with the historic watch company Hamilton which has intricately designed two dazzling watch models that replicate those worn by Leon and Grace in-game in stunning detail. The Khaki Field Auto Chrono (Leon) and the Pan Europ Automatic (Grace) can be purchased starting on Friday, February 27, the same day Resident Evil Requiem launches, and are extremely limited with only 2,000 units available worldwide.
And racing to the finish line is the lightning fast collaboration with Porsche, the automaker that has captivated car enthusiasts worldwide for decades. A one-of-a-kind Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT has been created with complex 3D printing technology, perfectly customizing the vehicle to fit into the game’s distinctly dark world. Designed around the core themes of performance and survival, this custom SUV appears in the game as Leon’s vehicle – a legendary ride for a legendary character.
