Starter Guides

Many of these guides will contain Pal-based spoilers, so click around at your own risk. Some guides come with YouTube videos, and others do not.

If you’re new to Palworld or need a refresher about basic mechanics, this is the place you start.

• Can Pals Evolve?

• Can I complete the technology tree?
  • Yes, but not by leveling up. You will have to unlock all of the fast travel points and find tech books to get more technology points.
• How many Pals can I have on a team?
  • You can have 6 Pals on your team. Try to carry a few different elements with you because you might need them to open chests as you travel. When you summon a fire Pal, it will keep you warm in the cold. When you summon a frost Pal, it will keep you cold when it’s too warm. However, they do not completely negate the weather, so plan accordingly.

Battling Basics

Pals each have types, like Pokémon! So this is how this chat is read: Fire beats Grass. Grass beats Ground. Ground beats Electric. Electric beats Water. Water beats Fire. Fire beats Ice. Ice beats Dragon. Dragon beats Dark. Dark beats Neutral.

To take this one step further, every Pal has three basic stats. Attack is your Pal’s damage dealt. You will get a bonus to your attack from how much your Pal trusts you. Defense is very important because it decreases the damage your Pal will take as the Defense number increases. You also get a Defense bonus from Trust. Work Speed is how efficiently your Pal is at doing basic tasks. As you level your Pal, these numbers will increase, and there are other ways to do that as well.

Your Pals level is at the top, as well as a star rating, which can be increased, how many Pal souls you’ll get if you kill it, the type of Pal it is, the gender, and a space for you to give it a nickname.

Hud Basics

So let’s talk about the top of the screen first. That is where your map is; you can see some fast travel icons that I have already activated. Watch the numbers because they will get smaller as you approach things.

So on the lower left-hand side, you have your Pals. You can summon them with the Left Bumper and cycle through them with the Left and Right D-pad buttons. Your Pal’s name, level, type, and HP are at the bottom of the screen.

Under that, you have a blue bar, which is your shield. The green bar is your health bar. The bar under that is your hunger. On the right side of those bars is where you will have your hot and cold meter. Mine is empty because of the armor I am wearing. Next to that, where the sun icon is, is the time of day.

Pressing up on the D-Pad will bring you to the build menu. I will talk about it in a video tutorial later.

On the lower right, you have the Command Pal wheel that you can access by pressing RS. You can throw a Pal Sphere with RB and change the Pal Sphere by pressing Down on the D-Pad. You can change the weapon you are using with the Y button (Xbox). 

What you’re seeing on the upper right is the Base info box. That tells you what your Pals are doing in the base that you’re currently standing in. It will go away when you leave the base. On top of that is the current mission you have active.

Quick Tips to stay warm or cool

Okay, so if you’re like me and you like to explore, this is going to get your knees caps. You have to pay attention to your temperature. Because this is the early game, I am not going to go over armor, but I will go over Pals really swiftly. 

Pals that have the elements of Fire and Ice will be your best friends when you explore. They are not going to negate all of the elements coming at you, but they will keep you warm and cold. You have to make sure the Pal is summoned, but they do not have to be directly next to you.

10 Tips for Beginners before we continue 

1. Always speak to the NPCs
   1. They will either have a quest or an item to give you, and sometimes lore.
2. Carry Food and make sure it’s cooked
   1. You need to keep all of your Pals fed, especially if you’re using a mount. 
   2. Get the feed bag as soon as you can. 
3. Build your base on flat land
   1. The buildings in Palworld are large. 
   2. You can have multiple bases, so don’t stress about where you put them. BUT as of January 2026, moving bases is really difficult, so make sure to spread them out!
4. When building a base, try not to stack Pal’s who have a ton of different skills to use
   1. You don’t need 6 Pals who are mining and trying to do four other tasks at once 
5. Do not swim across large bodies of water
   1. You will likely drown and die. Swimming uses stamina. 
   2. Use a Pal that swims to look for an island. Do not use any random Pal.
6. Catch Duplicate Pals
   1. You will get a lot of XP for 10 to 12 catches, and it helps you get to level 30 fast. 
7. Adjusting your server settings will not turn off achievements 
8. Make sure to bring your encumbrance up as soon as possible, but don’t overshoot it. You need it to carry ore. Likewise, you should bring your stamina up, but don’t overshoot that. Your points are precious. 
9. Spend your tech points wisely. You can complete the tree, BUT not by leveling up. You will need tech points from other sources. 
10. Photomode is not a pause button.
